Wurzer Has Rich Farm Background​

In the busy day-to-day operations of our organization, it’s easy to miss the people who keep things running. The work gets done and our mission moves forward, but those behind the scenes don’t always get noticed. Today, we want to highlight someone who makes a real difference in our Mideast region: Sharon Wurzer.

Sharon grew up on a family farm in rural western Iowa with her five siblings. Farm life was more than work—it was their way of living. Her family raised hogs, feeder pigs, corn, and soybeans, and they depended on what they produced, even canning much of their own food. From early on, Sharon was involved, following her dad around the farm and always ready to help, even as she was still learning.

As Sharon grew older, her enthusiasm became real responsibility. In high school, she handled much of the daily farmwork while her dad focused on crops and managing the business. This experience shaped her strong work ethic and sense of responsibility—qualities she still carries today. When her family sold the farm in 2008, it was hard for Sharon, but the values she learned there stayed with her.

Sharon used those values as she worked to earn an associate’s degree in accounting and business. Over 25 years, she built a career in manufacturing, agriculture, and ethanol accounting. This gave her a solid technical background and kept her close to the agriculture industry she cares about.

Sharon started at National Farmers in 2011 as a temporary employee, and it quickly became clear she was a great fit. By October that year, she became the dairy accountant for the Great Lakes Gulf region. Accounting roles might not always get noticed, but Sharon’s work is essential for our producers and the organization. She truly enjoys her job, especially when she’s helping farmers.

Sharon’s passion makes her a stand out. She understands farmers not only through her work, but also from her own life. She knows the challenges and dedication farming requires, because she’s experienced it herself. This perspective comes through in her work, making her someone our farmers trust and rely on.

Now, Sharon lives in Nevada, Iowa, not far from our home office in Ames. Outside of work, she likes engaging in home improvement projects and spending time with family and friends. She’s especially enthusiastic about cheering on her godson, Wyatt, in his figure-8 car racing, which she proudly supports as he enters his fourth year.

Sharon is the kind of person every organization hopes to have—steady, dedicated, and truly committed to those she serves. She may not always be in the spotlight, but her contributions are felt every day. National Farmers is lucky and proud to have Sharon on our team. Recognizing her story reminds us how important behind-the-scenes roles are.
